CD68 (Macrophage Marker) (rLAMP4/824), CF647 Conjugate is a fluorescently labeled antibody designed to recognize CD68, a glycoprotein with an approximate molecular weight of 110 kDa. CD68 is widely used as a marker for identifying macrophages in tissue sections.
This antibody recognizes macrophages in a wide variety of human tissues, including Kupffer cells in the liver, macrophages in the red pulp of the spleen, cells in the intestinal lamina propria, lung alveolar macrophages, and bone marrow macrophages.
It also reacts with myeloid precursors and peripheral blood granulocytes. The antibody demonstrates strong granular cytoplasmic staining in acute and chronic myeloid leukemia and may react with rare cases of true histiocytic neoplasia.
The CF647 fluorescent conjugate combines CD68 recognition with fluorescence-based detection for research applications involving macrophage identification and cellular analysis.
About CD68
CD68 is a heavily glycosylated transmembrane glycoprotein commonly associated with cells of the monocyte and macrophage lineage. It is predominantly localized in intracellular endosomal and lysosomal compartments.
Because CD68 is frequently expressed in macrophages, it is an important immunohistochemical marker used to investigate macrophage distribution in normal and diseased tissues.
CD68 expression can also be observed in other myeloid-lineage cells. Therefore, it is generally interpreted alongside tissue morphology and additional cellular markers when characterizing immune cell populations.
Key Features
- Recognizes CD68, a macrophage-associated glycoprotein
- Approximate target molecular weight: 110 kDa
- CF647 fluorescent conjugate
- Concentration: 0.1 mg/mL
- Clone designation: rLAMP4/824
- Recognizes macrophages in a variety of human tissues
- Suitable for macrophage and myeloid cell research
- Supplied in a 500 µL format
CD68 Expression in Human Tissues
The antibody recognizes macrophages in several human tissue compartments, including:
- Liver: Kupffer cells
- Spleen: Macrophages in the red pulp
- Gastrointestinal tract: Macrophages in the intestinal lamina propria
- Lung: Alveolar macrophages
- Bone marrow: Macrophage populations and myeloid precursors
- Peripheral blood: Reactivity with granulocytes
CD68 staining can also be observed in certain myeloid and histiocytic neoplasms. Lymphomas are generally negative or may show only limited granular staining.
CF647 Fluorescent Conjugate
CF647 is a far-red fluorescent dye used for antibody labeling and fluorescence-based detection. Its fluorescence properties make it useful for multicolor experiments and cellular imaging workflows.
Fluorescently labeled antibodies allow researchers to visualize target-associated signals using suitable fluorescence detection systems. CF dyes are designed to provide strong fluorescence and photostability for research applications.
When planning multicolor experiments, select compatible excitation and emission settings and consider spectral overlap with other fluorescent labels.
Research Applications
Macrophage Identification: Detection and visualization of macrophages in human tissue samples.
Immunofluorescence: Fluorescence-based investigation of CD68 expression and cellular distribution.
Histopathology Research: Examination of macrophage populations in different tissue environments.
Immunology Research: Study of monocyte/macrophage-associated cell populations and immune responses.
Hematological Research: Investigation of CD68 expression in myeloid precursors and selected myeloid neoplasms.
Multicolor Fluorescence Studies: Incorporation into compatible fluorescence-based experimental panels.
