1999 Joanne Marie Wittbrodt – Joanne distinguished herself as a computational chemist whose research explored the gas-phase reactivity of small molecules and their interactions with surfaces. Her work included studies on thermal decomposition of dichlorosilane, water interactions with aluminum oxide models, and the reactivity of silicon-phosphorus compounds. Collaborating closely with experimentalists, she applied ab initio calculations to interpret structures and behaviors of newly synthesized compounds. Joanne authored seven publications, presented her research at national and regional conferences, and developed an undergraduate Computational Chemistry course at Saginaw Valley University, earning multiple teaching awards. Her achievements exemplify the spirit of innovation, dedication, and mentorship that the Hoffman Award celebrates.
